Ingersoll Rand rushes with $100m infra plan

The $13 billion Ingersoll Rand company engaged in infrastructure building for over a century now, has earmarked about $100 million for its Indian operations during the next couple of years and is contemplating to source products and services of an equal amount. The company with interest in infrastructure development, technology, security and safety systems, is currently planning to set up a back office in India to service its customers across the world.

The chairman and chief executive officer (CEO), Herbert L Henkel, said that his company spent over a century in building roads and infrastructure and will continue to do so to double its sales to about $500 million in the next three years. In India, the company is currently operating at 18 locations across the country. With about 1,600 current staff strength mostly engineers working at two manufacturing plants at Chennai and Bangalore centers it is planning to deploy more employees at its expanded locations depending on how its business expands.

The company engineering wing works on product innovations for the global operations of the company and China is one of company fastest growing markets, posting an annual growth of about 25 per cent. The company total sales last year were about $1.1 billion. India with great potential will equal the size of China market in the next few years and will soon become a major manufacturing hub. To achieve the targeted growth, India needs to make all round improvement and Ingersoll has solutions to push efficiencies at all levels. Its shared service centre is likely to come up in the next few months anywhere in India and it will offer transactional and office services to the company 60,000 employees across the world, he added.
